Weekend TIA information pack for GPs - information and referral form for GPs needing to access weekend and Bank Holiday service at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital.

A TIA is a medical emergency. Do not ignore symptoms just because they go away. They may be a warning of a future stroke. You can identify a TIA using the FAST test
Facial weakness: Can the person smile? Has their mouth or eye
drooped?
Arm weakness: Can the person raise both arms?
Speech problems: Can the person speak clearly and understand
what you say?
Time to call: Time to call 999 if a person fails any one of theses tests

Call 999 immediately if you think you are having a heart attack
The symptoms of a heart attack can vary from one person to another; some common symptoms include:

*Pain in the centre of the chest

*The pain can spread to the arms, neck and jaw

*Feeling sick or sweaty as well as having central chest pain

*Feeling short of breath as well as having central chest pain
Some people may feel the symptoms described below:

*A dull pain, ache or "heavy" feeling in the chest

*A mild discomfort in the chest that makes you feel generally unwell

*A pain in your chest that can spread to the back or stomach
-
*A chest pain that feels like a bad episode of indigestion

*Feeling light-headed or dizzy as well as having chest pain
(Women are more likely to experience these symptoms)
